As public administration continues to shift from a “document presentation” model to a “data-driven” approach, keeping up with new methods of accessing and utilizing civil status data has become increasingly relevant to legal practitioners.

With this in mind, the Lawyers & Associates of THE LAM recently participated in an internal knowledge-sharing session on:

The session focused on several key topics, including:
📌 An overview of civil status records and the Electronic Civil Status Database;
📌 Sources of civil status information and data storage systems;
📌 Practical access to civil status data, particularly for searching and verifying information relating to birth registration, marriage registration, death registration, and changes to civil status records;
📌 The significance of electronic civil status data in the processing of administrative procedures.

💡 The THE LAM team also shared practical considerations when accessing and verifying civil status data, particularly in cases involving historical data, paper records maintained across different periods, or difficulties arising from administrative mergers and changes in administrative boundaries.

For legal practice, the ability to verify and access civil status information plays an important role in case review, identification of family and personal relationships, and collection of supporting documents, thereby contributing to the quality and effectiveness of legal services provided to clients.
